One of the most underrated tasks is matching your lighting with your bathroom design. Here are 5 tips to keep in mind when choosing your lighting.

Choosing bathroom lighting can be overwhelming. Different bathroom areas like vanity, tub area, and shower will need to have different lighting options. Besides, there should be a smooth transition on the feel and style. Over the years, here is what I have learned about choosing the proper lighting that matches your bathroom design.

1. The Size

The bath light bars come in various dimensions. Yet, picking the first light to fix in a bathroom will not do. The best lights to use depends on the size of your bathing area. When choosing the light, my advice is to get the one that is not wider than the cabinet or the vanity.

The right light bar needs to be 75% width or more; it also needs to be centered with the cabinet. That will give your bathroom a symmetrical appearance and a clean and finished look. In case of a long vanity or double sinks, then you should consider using more than one bath bar.

3. The Finish

Another point to consider when choosing the lights to use in your bathroom is the finish. The finish should coordinate with the fixtures in the bathroom. The coordination will give your bathroom areas a compact look. I have found contrasting the light finishes with the fixtures will result in the room appearing to be uncoordinated.

For shiny fixtures, the lighting in your bathroom needs to have a shiny appearance. The options to use are polished nickel or chrome. Other options that can be used in light fixtures are antique brass, bronze, and even black.

4. The Glass and Bulbs

When choosing the lighting in the bathroom, the glass and the bulb play a vital role. The recommendation is choosing frosted or opal glass shades. When fixing the bathroom lights, most clients hesitate in choosing glass bulbs and shades since they feel that the filament from the exposed bulbs can be blinding.

However, it is possible to pair the bulbs with coated frosted bulbs. That will give the bathroom the curb appeal it needs. My advice to my clients is to choose an option that will reflect their taste when it comes to glass and bulbs. A pro tip is to use LED light in the bathroom if it is applicable.

5. The Style

When fixing lights in a bathroom, the best part of my experience is choosing the style. The various vanity lighting options allow the clients to explore their artistic side. Of course, the style used in the bathroom needs to follow a particular theme.

The style used will determine the feel of the bathroom. Ensure you choose a style that can be easy to install, not only on the main lighting, but also on all the lighting, including the mirror lighting.
