You are about to embark on a major remodel – how exciting! – And you’ve selected CRD to be your remodel team! With our expertise and design-build process in your corner, you can be confident that your new space will be everything you dreamed it would be!
But before any demo and framing can start your CRD design team will need to learn more about your goals for the project. An intimate understanding of you and your family’s likes, dislikes, needs and wants is the foundation of a successful remodel. At the end of your project, the remodel outcome should be a clear reflection of you!
After you’ve signed your Design Agreement with CRD, time will be scheduled for the Programming Meeting. Here are some of the questions our clients often have about this appointment and helpful tips on how to prepare.
Q: What is programming and why do we need it?
A: Programming is an essential part of the architectural and interior design process that establishes a deep understanding of the clients preferences both functionally and aesthetically. During Programming your CRD designer will “interview” you with 1,001 questions. We know you need a new Master Suite addition and new powder room, but there is so much more that makes you “you”! We want to know if you like shiny or matte surfaces, are you left/right handed, how many people cook at one time, who wakes up first, do you host small dinners or large parties, does anyone in your family use a walker or wheelchair…….and the list goes on!
Q: How long will it take?
A: Programming can take between 1-2 hours depending on the size of the project. Visual aids are often helpful during this meeting and you’re welcome to review Houzz and/or Pinterest during this time with your designer.
Q: Does my partner/spouse/family need to be present?
Yes! It is crucial for both people involved with the decision making to be present. Sometimes children or whole families sit down with us for Programming. Maybe you have a trusted friend that you’d like to join the meeting, and that’s fine, too.
Q: Someone from CRD has already given us a consult at our house. Why does the designer need to come over again?
A: The initial consult that we offer is just a brief moment for us to better understand if your project goals align with what you plan to invest. This also gives us a chance to raise red flags for potential challenges that relate to your goals. Programming is significantly more detailed and in-depth.
Q: Our schedules are really busy. Can we get started with design and then have the Programming Meeting later?
Unfortunately, no. We understand that schedules can be hard to coordinate during business hours and we work be as flexible as possible. Ultimately, starting design before Programming is a bit like putting the cart before the horse.
