Fremont ADU
The In-Law Duo Duplex
The touching story behind this renovation project warms our hearts. It unfolds as a story of two mothers-in-law brought together by their married children. One of these mothers-in-law lives just a short walk away from her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. When the mother of the daughter-in-law expressed her desire to live in close proximity, a wonderful solution presented itself – the addition of an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) to the neighboring mother-in-law’s house. This ingenious solution allowed both mothers to reside near their beloved children and grandchildren.
The transformation began by lifting the original house and digging down the basement that used to include a modest basement laundry room and crawl space. A new foundation was poured for the leveled basement. This allowed the space needed to create a fully functional ADU, complete with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a laundry room.

“Drew and Zulma, Google - We are on embarking on our second remodel with CRD. The first project involved raising the house and an ADU in the basement. It was a huge undertaking and long process from design to wrapping up constructions. We felt we came to know many of the CRD team. What most impressed our family was how smoothly the communication with CRD went; this is followed very closely by their stellar work. Their designers and craftsman worked hard to preserve the character of the house. We can hardly remember what the house was like before. This time around, we are having a bathroom updated through their "home services" team. It's a much smaller project, yet the communication has been great. We feel equally confident in our choice of CRD and are looking forward to someday soon, having a much nicer bathroom.”
